Abandoned Girl Baby was rescued and is a secure 11 year old today

This Moomli card was beautifully hand painted by 11 year old Thara Devi Vidyaakar who lives in Chennai, India at Udavum Karangal.

Thara Devi & Tharini Selvi are twin sisters. Both are artists and studying in VII Grade. The twin grl babies were abandoned on the streets of Chennai and rescued by Udavum Karangal. Both the sisters are good in drawing and painting and have won many prizes. They are also good in studies.

Rajan's parents died in an accident with nobody to care of him


This Moomli card was beautifully hand painted by Rajan Vidyaakar who lives in Chennai, India at the orphanage, Udavum Karangal.

Rajan's parents died in an accident 10 years back. Since then he is under of Udavum Karangal. He is a brilliant student. He excels not only in studies, but in extracurricular activities too. Has won many prizes in sports & games, drawing competition, etc. He studies in XII Standard.

Sonia supports her family with Moomli Cards

Sonia is 19 year old. She does paperwork and makes stationery and diaries. She joined Vidya’s centre in 2004. She is happy as she is learning how to communicate with people and new skills. Sonia feels she is a much more confidant person and can face problems easily. She earns 1600-1700 INR per month depending on the number of orders. She keeps 500 INR with herself and the rest she gives to her mother. Her income is also used for her sister’s education.

Twin girl babies were abandoned in Chennai and rescued by Udavum Karangal orphanage

Bal Vihar kids hand make and draw Moomli cards


Vidya Bal Vihar School provides basic education from nursery to class V. The school caters to children from the slums around IIT Delhi, including Munirka, Katwaria Sarai, Jia Sarai, R.K. Puram & JNU.

Our approach to education is holistic and music, dance, art, excursions, sports, computer-training programmes are part of the curriculum.

Financially Backward Reena is now a confident woman thanks to Vidya organization in Delhi

Reena is 23 years old and has studied till eighth standard. Her family’s originally from Rajasthan but settled in Delhi. Reena also does stitching, embroidery and painting work at Vidya’s center. She came to Vidya in 2001.

Initially, her mother discouraged her from working at the centre. She wanted Reena to work at home. Now her mother is happy that she has joined this program as Reena earns1500-1600 INR every month depending on the orders. Then also she is not able to save any part of her income as it is spent in buying goods for her house and on the members of her family.

Joining Vidya and earning on her own has truly helped Reena with more confidence in herself and has helped her grow. She has improved how she talks to people and the way she conducts herself. She has sharpened her communication skills and become a more confident person by taking conversational English classes at Vidya’s centre.

15 year old Kamaraaj Vidyaakar at the orphanage Udavum Karangal in Chennai


Kamaraaj Vidyaakar lives in Chennai, India at the orphanage Udavum Karangal.

Kamaraj is an orphaned child handed over to Udavum Karangal by well wishers thirteen years back. He studies in XI Standard. He is good in studies and sports. Drawing is his hobby and has won many prizes in inter school competitions and competitions conducted by Lalitkala academy.
